Mary Lou Pape

Artist Statement

Raised in Kansas, with wonderful days spent on my grandparents’ farm, I have always had a love of nature and animals. I am drawn to intimate views of wildlife and the western way of life and especially love to portray the way light enhances the subjects.

I work in oil, pencil and pastel from my home studio in Monument. I find inspiration all around me and use my own reference material gathered from trips to National Parks, nature preserves, ranches, rodeos and my own backyard.

Some 2019 shows include the Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show, the Greeley Stampede Invitational Art Show and the Women Artists of the West National Show in Boulder, CO. Recent awards include the 2018 Featured Artist at the Western Wildlife Art Show in Ft. Robinson, NE., People’s Choice at the Western Spirit Art Show in 2017 in Cheyenne, WY., and Best Animal at the Women Artists of the West 2017 National Show. More work, other awards and shows can be found on my website.
