Jodie Bliss

Artist Statement

Being the rough-neck, thrill-seeking, mountain woman that she is, Jodie loves hiking, biking, lake kayaking, rafting and just about anything that gets her out into the Colorado sunshine. With her faithful and ever-so-handsome life partner, Dakota Dog, always at her side, Jodie approaches each new day with curiosity.

When not out living the Nouveau American Dream (see above), or embarking on spontaneous midnight road trips to unexpected places, Jodie can be found in her fabulous studio at the base of Mt.Herman, ringing on her anvil, sculpting in clay, or delving into some new technique or material.

Currently working primarily in steel and glass she develops most work from a central theme of “Forged Identity”. Jodie holds a B.F.A. as well as a M.F.A in Sculpture from Western State College and Academy of Art University San Francisco, respectively. Having shown in galleries for the past several years, and participated in juried Fine Art Shows for the past year, Jodie hopes that traveling to show her work will increase her exposure as a new emerging artist, while simultaneously fulfilling her ever present need for travel and new experiences.

Jodie has been intrigued for as long as she can remember by the ways in which we create our identities, and present them to the world. Jodie's love for the individual fuels her fascination with identity construction.

“There are two major forces that drive my work as an artist; my interest in the eclectic nature of the individual and my passion for building a relationship with my materials. In my work, each of the elements that make up a piece have a role in revealing to the viewer a different aspect of who this person is. In modern day, with the numerous options that we have as far as self presentation, and self identification the source of our belief systems is an eclectic collection of objects, rituals, and ideas. “

Jodie welcomes walk in guests to her studio located behind the Wisdom Tea House in Historic Downtown Monument (accessed by the alley behind Casa Fiesta). You can view her work at Jodie also participates in the Monument Art Hop on the third Thursday from May to September.
